Loudmark: Decibel Meter (“Loudmark”) shows the approximate sound level around your phone. It is developed by Anees Studio (“we”). This page explains what the app does with the microphone, what it keeps, where anything goes, and how to remove it.
The short version
- Loudmark uses the microphone only to measure how loud it is, and only while the app is on screen. It never records, saves or sends any sound.
- Loudmark has no account, no ads, no usage analytics and no tracking.
- Everything it keeps stays on your phone, and in your phone’s own backup if you use one. We have no server that receives it.
- The only service Loudmark talks to is the one that handles Loudmark Pro: it checks your purchase with Apple or Google through RevenueCat.
The microphone
When you allow it, Loudmark reads the microphone to work out a sound level in decibels, several times a second, on the phone. The sound itself is turned into numbers straight away and then thrown away: no audio is recorded, stored, played back or sent anywhere, and no speech is recognised. The microphone runs only while Loudmark is on screen and measuring; it stops as soon as you pause, leave the app, lock the phone or take a call. Your phone shows its own microphone indicator whenever the microphone is on.
You can turn the microphone off for Loudmark at any time in your phone’s settings; the app then shows no readings.
What stays on your phone
Loudmark stores these on your device only:
- your settings: calibration, response, keep screen on, theme, haptics, the limit alert and accent color;
- whether it has asked for the microphone, so it knows which screen to show;
- with Loudmark Pro, the sessions you save: their name, start time, length, the levels of each second (numbers only, never sound), your note and, if the limit alert was on, how often it went over; you can delete any session at any time;
- whether Loudmark Pro is unlocked, so it stays unlocked when you are offline;
- a few counts that decide when Loudmark may ask you to rate it: the day you first opened it, how many sessions you saved and logs you exported, on how many days you used it, and when it last asked.
We never receive any of the above, and deleting the app deletes it from your phone.
Noise logs you export
With Loudmark Pro you can export a saved session as a PDF or CSV noise log. The file is made on your phone and handed to your phone’s share sheet; it goes only where you choose to send or save it. We never receive it.
Your phone’s own backups
If your phone’s backup is turned on (iCloud Backup on iPhone, or Google’s backup on Android), Apple or Google may include what is listed above in that backup, under their own terms. We never see or receive your backups. You can turn backups off, or delete them, in your phone’s settings.
Purchases
Loudmark Pro is a one-time purchase made through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment; we never see your card details.
To check the purchase, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase service. It asks RevenueCat when the app opens (so Pro stays unlocked, and is removed if a purchase is refunded), when you open the Loudmark Pro page (for the price), and when you buy or restore. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID that the app creates on your device, your purchase records from the store, and basic technical details such as the app version, the operating system version, your store country and the IP address the request comes from. It does not receive your name or email, and nothing about your readings or sessions. We use this to unlock Loudmark Pro on your devices. RevenueCat also shows us purchase totals, such as how many people bought Loudmark Pro, but not who they are.
Ratings
Now and then Loudmark may show the store’s own rating window, or open the store page when you tap “Rate Loudmark”. Anything you write there goes to Apple or Google under their terms, not to us.
If you write to us
“Send feedback” in Settings opens your own email app with a message to us. It ends with the app version and your phone’s system version, which you can see and remove before sending. Nothing is sent unless you send it. We use what you write, and your email address, only to read and answer your message.
Who else is involved
- Apple: App Store purchases and ratings.
- Google: Google Play purchases and ratings.
- RevenueCat: checking and restoring purchases, as described above.
We don’t sell or share anything with anyone else, and Loudmark contains no advertising code and no usage analytics.
Permissions
- Microphone: only to show the sound level while the app is on screen, as described above. Nothing is recorded.
- Internet: only for checking, buying and restoring Loudmark Pro, and for opening this page, the terms and the store page in your browser. Measuring works fully offline.
Loudmark does not ask for your location, contacts, camera or photos, does not run in the background, and does not ask to track you.
This website
These pages use no cookies, scripts or web fonts. Like any web server, ours keeps a short-lived log of requests (IP address, page and time) for security; it is not used for anything else.
Removing your data
Deleting Loudmark removes everything it stored on your phone. You can also delete saved sessions in the app at any time. A copy may stay in your phone’s own backup until you delete that backup or it is replaced. To have RevenueCat’s anonymous purchase record removed, email us; your purchase itself stays with Apple or Google, so you can still restore it.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing the address below. As everything stays on your phone, there is usually nothing on our side beyond RevenueCat’s anonymous record. We answer within 30 days. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Loudmark is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live) and collects no personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email aneesrnmba@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects what is collected or how it is used, we’ll say so in the app.
